  • learning the names and locations of the world's oceans
  • learning the names and locations of rivers in the UK
  • learning the features of rivers
  • learning about the world's longest rivers
  • learning about solids, liquids and gases
  • learning about the water cycle
  • looking at how artists paint water
  • experimenting with different paint techniques
  • replicating Hokusai's Great Wave painting

Rivers Day

On Monday 3rd October, we spent the day with Christi and Helen from Ribble Rivers Trust as part of our water topic.  In the morning, we walked partway up Waddington Fell to Waddington Brook where we looked for invertebrates.  We learnt about the differences between some of the species and why it is important to look after our rivers to help these creatures survive.  In the afternoon, we split into two groups.  Each group learnt about ways to save water and wrote water pledges, and they spent time at the 'River Table' learning about the features of rivers (including source, meander, tributaries and mouth) and about river erosion and how this can be prevented.

Below are some photos from the day and examples of our writing after the visit.

Super Science!

To link with our theme of water, we have been learning about 'states of matter' in science, and investigating how water in its different forms can be a solid, a liquid, or a gas.  On Tuesday 11th October, we had lots of fun with creating gases using mentos and cola.  Below are some action shots!
