Heroes and Villains
In this topic, we:
- read The Super Twins and wrote our own superhero stories
- met the author of The Super Twins
- designed our own superhero outfits and secret bases
- studied the pop art of Roy Lichtenstein and created our own artwork based on one of his pieces
- learnt about healthy eating and super foods
- tasted lots of different vegetables and developed our own soup recipes
- made super soup and evaluated them
- learnt about solids, liquids and gases, and used what we learnt to create 'explosions'
Author visit
After reading The Super Twins, we were very excited to welcome author Andy Slinger in to Year Four. He read the opening pages of his sequel, The Super Twins 2, and answered lots of questions. He told us about why he became a writer, where he writes, how he gets his ideas, and gave us some great tips for writing our own superhero stories.
We also got to hold the medal he won for his books.
Our Superheroes
After reading The Super Twins, we created our own superheroes and designed outfits and bases for them. We then planned and wrote our own stories, inspired by The Super Twins. Below are a few examples.
Pop Art
We studied the work of Roy Lichtenstein and created our own pieces of art inspired by him.
Super Soup!
We learnt about the Eat Well plate then tasted a variety of vegetables to create recipes for our own Superhero Soups!
We made four different types of soup (leek and potato, root vegetable, red pepper and tomato, and broccoli and cauliflower). We all used peeling and chopping skills to help make one of the soups, then taste-tested all of the soups before choosing our favourite.
Villainous Explosions!
To link with the chapter in The Super Twins where household objects are used in the battle between Evil Dad's army and those loyal to the twins, we experimented with seeing which type of cola would make the best explosion when mixed with mints!
The diet cola worked best as it went higher and made a pop! The Pepsi reacted after the least mints but didn't fizz as much.
