MOSQUE VISIT
On Friday 6th March, we went to the Mosque in Clitheroe to learn more about the Islamic faith and to watch Friday prayers.
FOOD
Whilst reading The Golden Horsemen of Baghdad, our mouths were watering at the descriptions of the food in the banquet, so we recreated them for our own banquet in class!
We made spicy vegetable tagine, jewelled couscous and rosemary flatbreads.
There were some excellent cookery skills on show from the children who definitely enjoyed what they ate - with everyone coming back for seconds and even thirds!
In this topic, we will be:
- learning about the Golden Age of Islam and about the city of Baghdad in 900CE - this will include finding out about what the city looked like, what important buildings were there, and what life was like
- reading The Golden Horsemen of Baghdad
- making and eating food which would have been typical of Baghdad during the Golden Age of Islam
- finding out about the Islamic religion and visiting Clitheroe Mosque
- learning about geometric art, creating our own patterns, and printing geometric patterns on to fabric to create 'mini prayer mats'
