School Values and Equality Statement

Our School Values and Mission Statement

Our school values are at the core of everything we do. They underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils as confident, happy citizens.

In our Christian family, we Encourage, Serve and Respect everyone and shine in the light of Jesus.

As members of God’s family, at Waddington and West Bradford Church of England Primary School, we aim to love one another as Jesus loves us. (John15 :12-13)

We do our best to Encourage, Serve and Respect everyone.  (1Thess 5:11)

Our Christian values of compassion, hope, joy, forgiveness, and courage are at the heart of school life and guide our behaviour towards each other, our local community and the wider world. Together we build each other up to be the person God has created us to be and shine in the light of Jesus.

Serve God and be courageous, just as Jesus was courageous.

Help one another to have compassion and learn forgiveness and respect.

Individuals support each other and bring joy to the community.

Nurture everyone in a safe environment where all are celebrated and we care for our planet.

Encourage each other to be the person God created us to be.

Equality

We appreciate that a culture which promotes equality will create a positive environment and a shared sense of belonging for all who work, learn and use the services of our school.  We recognise that equality will only be achieved by the whole school community working together – our pupils, staff, governors and parents/carers.

Our Equalities Information and Objectives Statement is designed to guide us in fulfilling the 2010 Equality Act which states that public bodies are required to have due regard to:

  • Eliminate discrimination and other conduct that is prohibited by the Act
  • Advance equality of opportunity between people
  • Foster good relationships across all characteristics

In September 2022, we begin our journey to achieving the Lancashire Equality Mark.  This mark is awarded to schools who have taken measures to embed Equality throughout their practice with the goal of enabling all pupils to thrive in a supportive learning community. It has been developed by a working group in Lancashire and provides a clear framework to guide schools through the process of auditing, developing and consolidating good practice in different areas of Equality. It builds on and extends the good practice of the Lancashire Race Equality Mark

The Equality Mark comprises six individual Equality Badges:

  • Race Equality Badge
  • Gender and Gender Variance Equality Badge
  • Disability Equality Badge
  • Socio-economic Equality Badge
  • Sexual Orientation Equality Badge
  • Religion and Belief Equality Badge

We often like to use stories and books to teach them about the Protected Characteristics.
