Background

The Friends of WWB is a voluntary organisation run by parents, teachers and teaching assistants to raise much-needed funds for the school.  These provide both essential and extra resources for our children, which the school could not otherwise afford from its budget.

Friends was founded in 1995, and every year has raised essential extra money all of which goes directly to the school.  This has been spent on a wide range of equipment, support and activities for the children, including:

• funding to replace the school roof
• funding playground markings
• buying classroom equipment and furniture
• funding towards building the sports pitch
• subsidising the annual trip to the pantomime
• buying lots of outdoor play equipment such as balls, games tables and stilts - plus sheds to store them in
• buying reading books
• replacing interactive whiteboards
• buying ingredients for baking projects
• buying art materials
• subsidising class trips and visitors to classes

Our fundraising events include:

• auction night / ball
• Race night
• Christmas fayre
• Beetle Drive
• 100 Club
• Pumpkin trail
• summer BBQ
• school discos
• sponsored walks / treasure hunts
• book donation scheme
• Christmas cards
• and many, many cake stalls!

We are always welcoming new ideas - so let us know if you can think of anything else we can do!

Joining the Friends

Everyone is welcome to be a Friend of WWB.  All WWB parents and staff are automatically members of WWB Friends and the school is very grateful for the time, effort and money that are given by both parents and teachers who take part in a wide range of fundraising events throughout the year.

Any help that you can give this year, either in organising, running or equipping fundraising events – or by joining the WWB Friends committee – would be greatly appreciated.  This is a huge job and we know we need all the help we can get!

The committee meets regularly (about once per half-term) and everyone is welcome to come along to the meetings and discuss new ideas and the organisation for forthcoming events.

This year the Friends' chair is Claire Neave and the treasurer is Charlotte Mitchell.  We don't have an official secretary at the moment and take it in turns to produce the minutes for each meeting. We can be found at the school gates most mornings and afternoons and are standing by to take your offers of help in person or by email:

If you can't come to a meeting, but are able to help at an event, please let a member of the committee know so that we can keep you up to date with what is happening and find out from you how you might be able to help.
